About

Chronicle Project is a documentary company that creates some of the world’s most compelling content for audiences with short attention spans.

The company develops and produces award-winning projects in the short documentary format, with offices in Los Angeles and Austin, TX. The company’s experience – over 100 documentary films produced in over 20 countries – has given it a foundation for making the right decisions which will emotionally connect audiences to your brand. They work incredibly hard to make videos which feel less like a pitch and more like a story, never wanting audiences to question whether something is authentic.

The company’s work has been featured on television and in theaters. Major internet outlets have also picked up their brand videos because the stories become bigger than a traditional product pitch (Huffintgon Post, AOL, Engadget, iTunes featured podcast, Vimeo staff picks, etc). In fact, many of their documentaries produced for clients have gone on to win awards at film festivals across the globe.

Chronicle Project knows that you have to give audiences a reason to keep watching. Viewer attention is not a given, rather it must be continually earned. Good stories keep people engaged.

We have a rotating cast of talented filmmakers, led by two principals:

Lead Producer | David Mahanes

David has overseen the production of documentaries and commercials over the last ten years, including the award-winning documentary Dear Francis. He has produced and filmed projects in several countries including, Swaziland, Rwanda, Kenya, Mexico, Turkey, Thailand, and Morocco. Previously David worked with I-40 Films, a film/video production company, where he oversaw the production of commercials including award winning spots for Ford and the Carolina Hurricanes.

Lead Director | Brent Gudgel

Brent has been directing documentaries for over ten years, including Dear Francis and the upcoming Lovin’ Lakin web series (starring Kristen Bell, Seth McFarlin, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristen Chennoweth, and Christine Lakin). He has directed over 100 productions in over 20 countries including Vietnam, Thailand, China, Tibet, Uzbekistan, Tanzania, Indonesia, and the Czech Republic. Brent loves following people around with cameras – which he acknowledges is kinda weird – and then scouring the footage to find the compelling story.

Things you should know about Brent:
- Has been held at gunpoint in Vietnam, while on assignment.
- Was a beach bum before he discovered film.
- Insists he lives in Austin exclusively for the BBQ and breakfast tacos.
